Magnolias are "Living Fossils" that existed before bees.

Because they evolved roughly 95 million years ago (during the Cretaceous period), they are among the oldest flowering plants on Earth. At that time, bees didn't exist yet, so Magnolias evolved to be pollinated by beetles.
